ABOUT TOMMY VALLEJOS
Tommy Vallejos was born in the barrios of Roswell, New Mexico. His early life was filled with gang violence. He lost two brothers and a stepfather to the streets. He also had three brothers sentenced to prison for murder and a sister given 39 years for murder. One of Tommy’s brothers was involved in one of the most deadly prison riots in American history. This was the Santa Fe riots of 1-3 Feb, 1980 where his brother was cut by a meat cleaver by rival gang members and lived to tell about it. Tommy’s only escape, from a life of crime, was to enter the US Army, which he did in 1980. His life was further changed when he became a Christian in 1986.
As a Staff Sergeant in the US Army, he fought in the first Gulf War. For his gallant service in leading a platoon from the 101st into combat, he was awarded the Bronze Star. He later shared his combat expertise by serving three years at Ft. Knox, Kentucky as a Drill Sergeant, preparing soldiers for military duty. He retired with over 21 years of active service. He has been married to his best friend, Caroline, for 25 years.
Today he serves as the director of HOPE (Hispanic Organization for Progress and Education). As a community leader and activist, he has traveled throughout the United States supporting and educating leaders and members of the Hispanic community.
As the director of HOPE, he has been instrumental in fighting for the civil rights of the voiceless by, among other things, helping establish classes in learning to speak English, holding food drives and providing interpreters for various functions. HOPE also provides assistance to the Clarksville Montgomery County school system in ESL matters and provides educational classes on Hispanic culture. He currently teaches classes to the Clarksville Police Department and is scheduled to teach Columbia Police Department on Hispanic Culture. Tommy also teaches Gang Awareness across America.
Tommy Vallejos is available for training on gang culture and awareness and can set training to any target group you desire.
